Would you trust your money with them?

France and Germany face the posibility of swingeing fines if they don't increase taxes and cut spending in the middle of a recession. Either the fines will be imposed, as clear an indication as any that membership of the EU is directly inimical to democracy and the nation's interest, or (and I think this more likely) it won't in which case the EU is shown to be incredibly partisan to its core members. After all, would there be any doubt about what would happen if the UK was in this position?
