I never got round to reading Sean Gabb's "A Case Against the European Union", but now I have I highly recomend it. One small quibble, supporting the EU may have seemed superficially attractive on free trade grounds (may this be a lesson for all those who want the UK to join NAFTA) but the main reason to support it was the Cold War. A large amount of right wingers supported it because it injected some back bone into Western Europe. This is precisely the reason why Tories should not feel guilty about campaigning to join, or the Single European Act. Of course, if you've not heard the news, the Cold War is over now.
